- Fostering unity between cohorts through random seating and the introduction of “Vertical Groups”

The AI MBA Student Council at Sogang University Graduate School of Business held a semester kick-off general meeting and new student welcome event on March 7 (Sat) at 7:00 PM at a restaurant near campus. The event was organized to celebrate the beginning of the new semester and to support the smooth integration of newly admitted Cohort 7 students.

A Pleasant Start with “Random Seating”

A total of 42 students attended the event, including 28 new students from Cohort 7 and 14 continuing students from Cohort 6. To encourage natural interaction between cohorts, the Student Council organized a “random seating” activity. Moving away from the conventional practice of sitting by cohort, students from both groups were mixed at each table, fostering lively conversations and strengthening the close-knit bond unique to the Sogang AI MBA community.

Launch of a New Tradition: “Vertical Groups”

Starting this year, the Cohort 6 Student Council introduced the “Vertical Group” system to promote ongoing interaction between cohorts. These groups are formed based on the original team assignments given at the time of admission, bringing together junior and senior students into a single team.

The Student Council stated, “The Vertical Group system will go beyond one-time interactions between Cohorts 6 and 7 and serve as a foundation for building a sustainable network. We expect it to help new students quickly adapt to school life while benefiting from the practical academic insights of their seniors, creating positive synergy.”

A Cohort 7 student who attended the event shared, “Thanks to the random seating, I was able to comfortably talk with many senior students, which made the experience especially meaningful. I’m really looking forward to future community activities through the Vertical Groups.”

Sogang AI MBA plans to continue hosting a variety of online and offline events to promote professional knowledge sharing and expand networking opportunities among its students.
